Hi Ho Silver

The kids wore costumes for story time at the library this week. I knew that Carter was going to be a cowboy, so when I saw a $3 horse costume at Gabe's, I knew it was meant to be.

Finger Food

Micah cannot live by Cheerios alone...but he wishes he could. I'm starting to get creative with finger foods because Micah doesn't really want to be fed anymore. I have to distract him with crackers, then sneak in my spoon of vegetables. I don't remember where I read it, but rolling bananas in graham cracker crumbs makes them a lot easier to pick up. It's messy, but effective.

Blessed

A few weeks ago a friend posted on her blog about how thankful she was to be a stay-at-home mom. It made me stop to be thankful as well. I know lots of awesome moms that either enjoy working or do so to help their families, but I'm glad I don't have to. I love being home with Micah (and Carter) every day. I look forward to each day, instead of just looking forward to the evenings and weekends. Praise God for giving me this opportunity!

Mommy's Helper

I put Micah down for his morning nap, and I didn't hear anything for about 15 minutes. I thought he was asleep. I was wrong.

I knew I was going to have to take the mobile down soon, since he's standing in his crib. Micah just decided to be helpful and take it down for me.

Last week Micah finally decided that he likes finger food. (Previously, if I tried to get him to eat chunks of anything he would cough and gag.) Cheerios are by far his favorite, but I keep offering other choices to see what he'll eat.

Eight Months

Micah seems to be gaining ground daily. He easily pulls himself up on anything and everything (although he's not quite as adept at getting back down). He's also exploring what's commonly called "cruising" - holding onto furniture as he takes steps. I sat in the nursery watching him today as he carefully maneuvered himself from the ottoman to the glider to the dresser to the chair and back again. He looked like he was rock climbing as he held onto the dresser knobs, carefully choosing his handholds. My bet is that he'll be walking by Christmas.

P.S. Congrats to Kara and Ben on their new baby girl!

Tough Guy

Micah finished his antibiotics for his ear infection this morning, so we had a follow-up appointment to make sure he was all better. He got a clean bill of health, but he also had to get the first dose of the flu shot. He didn't cry one little bit! You would have thought the nurse was just tickling him by the way he sat there and smiled!

The other day:
- Micah wakes up from a nap.
- Mom wrestles off pants and diaper.
- Micah crawls away.
- Mom catches Micah and puts on clean diaper and pants.
- Micah poops.
- Mom becomes octopus to get pants and diaper back off.
- Mom disposes of poopy diaper while Micah crawls away.
- Micah pees.
- Mom gets clean diaper on, redresses baby, cleans puddle off floor, and collapses in exhaustion.
(pretty sure he thinks it's funny that he just peed on the floor)

Catching Up

It's been a busy few days! Nana, Grandpapa, and Papa all came to visit this weekend. We had a baby dedication at church. Usually these services are pretty large, but this time it was only three babies - all friends of ours! All the grandparents had a good time playing with Micah. I think he appreciated the extra attention as he recovered from last week's ear infection. Today he seemed to be back to normal. Micah, Carter, and I took a field trip to a nearby apple orchard. It was a beautiful day (probably the nicest we'll have until next June), and we had a great time.
Oh - and on Friday a helicopter landed in our back yard!!! So weird!

Where's Micah? - A Lesson in Prepositions

If I leave the room for a minute, it's always a surprise where Micah will be when I get back.

On the garage

Behind
the exersaucer

In the toy box

Next to
the couch
(eating socks, logically)

Through the laundry hamper?

...and his favorite:
Between my feet

Avid Reader

Micah loves to eat books. I have to be very careful to make sure he can't reach ones with real pages, or else I have to scoop chewed paper out of his mouth. Occasionally, though, he also reads them. He seems to have developed a preference for Dr. Seuss.

Li'l Pumpkin

Take a moment.....brace yourself....you are about to see the cutest pictures ever. [With special thanks to Carter's mom for the idea, and Carter for lending us his costume]

Just to brag a little bit....the photographer loved the session because Micah would stay in any pose she put him and smile for the camera. :) There were so many great shots! I used my coupon and stayed reasonable, but I may have to go back to get more....

Tooth, Not Teeth! (and an ear)

Well, it turns out I was right the first time. The doctor confirmed today that it really is just one tooth with a crack in it. Apparently it's nothing to worry about, since it's just a baby tooth.

My primary reason for taking Micah to the doctor today was our sleeping issues. Gone are the days of 10-12 straight hours of sleep. Our little guy has been waking up at least once a night, if not more. I wanted the doctor to tell me: "There's absolutely no reason why he can't sleep through the night. Let him cry it out for a night or two, and you'll have no more problems." That's not what he told me. He said if Micah is really hungry (not just having a quick snack), then I should feed him. Boo. Well, if anyone needs me at 2:30am every night, you know where I'll be. Hopefully he grows out of this stage soon.

However, while he was giving Micah the once-over, he discovered that Micah has an ear infection! So, Micah got his first dose of antibiotics today.

On a happier note, I had some really cute pictures of Micah taken over the weekend. Here's a little taste (I'm saving some for another day...):

Multi-purpose

Micah is using some of his old toys in new ways. The exersaucer is a fun hiding spot to crawl into...

the fisher price garage is a good height for getting up to your knees...

and laundry baskets work great for standing! Carter and Micah were being very playful and funny today, but they move too quickly for me to get any really good pictures. I think Carter is rubbing Micah's fuzzy pajamas...
