First Game

Micah had his first t-ball game today! (The rest of the team had their first game last weekend while Micah was in Indiana, but I don't think he knows that.)  I found it adorable and funny, but you could also argue that it was hot (one little girl refused to play after the first inning because she was sweaty) and a little boring.

Each kid gets unlimited tries to hit the ball.  When he finally gets it off the tee, the kids in the outfield try to catch it and throw it to first.  (Really, only the kid playing the "pitcher" position gets any fielding action.)  There are no outs.  Everyone gets to run the bases.  The inning ends when everyone has had a turn to bat.  They played three innings, and it took an hour.

Micah loved it.  He was just so cute in his uniform.  I was really proud of how well he listened to his coaches and paid attention to the play (even though only one ball came anywhere near him the whole time).  He says his favorite part is running the bases.   :)

Micah also had his last day of preschool and spring program.  I forgot the camera (I can't be supermom all the time).  But lots of other parents had their cameras, so I'm sure we'll snag a shot of him performing sometime.  :)

Not Quite Done

Last Friday, Scott and the kids started driving west, and Nana started driving east.  They met in the middle to exchange children and carseats for the weekend.  Scott and I worked and worked all weekend long to get some house projects done.  By Saturday night I could barely stand up straight!  Even though the closet is not 100% done (we still need to hang the curtain panels on the front that will serve as a door), I thought I'd give you a few more pictures of the progress.
Here's how it was at the end of my last post.
Old shelving out, old carpet, tack strips, and baseboard out (surprise! wood floors underneath!), and walls primed and painted

Scott did all the assembly and installation of our new closet organizer .  He did an amazing job!  Sometimes I had to stop working just to admire how pretty it looks.  :)
Voila!  A closet large enough to hold both of our wardrobes!  Hooray!
I'm so glad the ugly peach paint in our room is gone.  With our new closet and a little furniture rearranging, the room feels extra spacious.  We also painted the baby's room and cleaned a lot of the extra clutter out of his room.  Not to leave Hannah and Micah out, they each had a little surprise in their rooms when they got home.
Hannah has a new reading corner.  She loves it, and it was a great distraction from the fact that the glider is now in the baby's room instead of her room.
And Micah now has a Lego table in his room.  Since his favorite thing to build with legos is vehicles, I  made the table have plenty of "roads" between the base plates.

Old and New Again

Hannah wore a dress to church yesterday that my mom made for me Easter 1983.  I think my niece Lucy wore it one year, too.  (Coincidentally, the sheets Hannah is sitting on were my brother's....reduce, reuse, recycle - right?

After a busy, friend-filled weekend, this guy was content to sit and play cars by himself for over an hour this afternoon.  As much as I love all the ways he is growing up and becoming more independent, I also adore that he still gets lost in playing cars and making sound effects.

We have a few house projects in the works that will hopefully be done before this baby arrives (nothing like a deadline to inspire one to work!).  The current priority is the closet in the master bedroom.  The closet is plenty big enough for two people, but the door is not.  The poor design leaves about two feet on either side of the door that is basically unusable because you can't reach the clothes back there.  Up to now, Scott has been keeping his clothes in the spare bedroom.  Since the spare room will soon be the baby's room, our arrangement needed to change. The project is still in progress, but I thought I'd copy what Eric did on facebook and just show you the "before" and "during" pictures and leave you anticipating the "after" pictures. :)
This was actually before we moved in.
Over three years later - still the ugly peach paint.

Here's how it looks as of right now!  Ooh, la, la - so much space!!  Our drywall guy is coming back tonight to finish up his part.  Then this weekend Nana and Grandpapa are taking the kids so we can install the closet organizer, hang the curtain panels, and paint.  Oh, and maybe we'll get the baby's room ready, too.

Mommy-Daughter Day

Jackson was with his grandparents today, and Micah got invited to a friend's house after school.  So Hannah and I had in impromptu Mommy-Daughter day!  Hannah rarely gets such an extended time with no other kids around, and she was enjoying the attention.  She was extra smiley and cute and talked even more than normal.  We did errands together, had munchkins for a snack, and made muffins when we got home.  To make the day even more special, she has a friend coming over this afternoon who is both close to her age and a girl (another rarity in her life)!

While we're talking about Hannah, I have just a side note for veracity's sake.  You may remember a post in March about her going on the potty and having some success.  Well, that one day was the only good one out of three weeks of trying.  We're back to diapers for now, and we'll revisit potty training in a few months.
