Surgery
Scott ruptured his patellar tendon playing basketball on Wednesday night. He had surgery this morning to repair it. While the surgery went well, the knee was more damaged than they originally thought. Scott will have to keep his leg straight for 4-6 weeks, then will have to limit his athletic activities. We appreciate your prayers as he recovers.

Notre Dame
On Saturday Scott and I went to a Notre Dame game with our friends Matt and Gretchen. We dropped Micah off at a friend's house for the day, then they brought him home where his babysitter put him to bed and stayed until we got back (at 1:30am!). We had a few hours to walk around campus and enjoy some of the traditional game day activities. The weather was not great, but we didn't mind. By game time the rain had stopped, and we even saw the sun a few times. The Irish made our trip extra special with a victory over Boston College. Go Irish!

House-Warming Gift
I've been composing this blog post in my head all day, trying to figure out how to recapture the moment in words. I'm sure I won't do it justice, but here's the story:
Last night Scott and I watched a couple of shows on TV, including a crime-drama where a woman was being stalked. It was around ten o'clock, and Scott had just gone upstairs. I was sitting in the quiet, mostly dark living room by myself, when the blaring sound of our doorbell being rung repeatedly scared me out of my seat (my mind flashing back to the stalker show we had just watched). When I had recovered my senses, I moved the blind to look out the front window. I didn't see anyone at the door or in the driveway, but it looked like a large package was on the front steps. Did someone send us a house-warming gift? I didn't see any delivery vehicles, and who would be delivering at this time of night anyway?
By this time Scott had come back down the stairs. "Did you answer the door?" he asked. "NO!" I responded in my best "are you CRAZY?" voice. My brave husband was apparently not concerned with potential stalkers. He opened the front door and started laughing. Then he said, "Leah!" (in a Jerry Seinfeld "Newman!" sort of way).
Sitting on our front porch was a cage addressed to Micah, with a chicken inside.
It was, of course, the work of Leah and her sister Sarah, whom we soon found hiding around the corner. They decided that since we are now Portage County residents, it was time for Micah to start raising livestock and join 4-H. It was a hilarious prank, but no.....we did NOT keep the chicken.

California
It has become apparent that there is no time in the near future when I'll have time to write a long blog post. Here's the short version: Micah had a great time staying home with his grandparents. Scott and I had the best vacation we've had since our honeymoon. It was the perfect mix of time alone and time with friends. The wedding was not just beautiful, but also very special to see our wonderful friend has found someone to spend his life with. Congratulations again to Dave and Julia, and thanks for babysitting, Nana and Grandpapa!
