Swimming Lessons

A few weeks ago when Gramme was here we went to the wading pool.  With a few words, Gramme was able to accomplish with Micah what I've been trying to do for the past few summers:  she got him to swim!!

The mask definitely helped to give him courage.  And I'm sure it helps that he was only in a foot of water. :)

Last week and this week, Micah and Hannah are both taking swimming lessons.  They're doing great and really enjoying it.  We switched Micah over to just goggles instead of a full mask.  (He likes to wear his goggles even when he's not swimming - like to Daddy's softball game on Saturday.  It's better than his fad of wearing his bike helmet everywhere, right?)

Ten Years and One Month

Thanks to the Oysters for watching these guys last night so we could go on a date!
Today Matthew is one month old!  He's a good little baby - eating like a champ and sleeping for long stretches at night.  He likes to be on his tummy or to be held (I'm thankful for my Moby Wrap!).  He's started having an occasional bottle.  I think smiling and cooing are just around the corner!

Camera Surprise

Remember when we used to have cameras with film?  You had to use up the whole roll of film before getting it developed.  For some, that process could take months!  It was always such a fun surprise to see how the pictures turned out and find pictures that you forgot you had taken.  It's just not quite the same with our instant-gratification digital era.  But if you're as forgetful as I am, transferring the pictures from the camera to the computer usually produces a few surprise shots.  Here are this week's findings:

Micah wanted to sleep in the "fort" that he built.  No, the fort did not collapse; this is how he built it.  Yes, he is actually asleep.
These two are entitled "How to keep your kids busy for hours".  Or "What to do with your old teaching supplies".

Sleeping

Does posting three times in one night make up for the past two weeks of silence?  Yes? Good.
Here are a few pictures of tired people around here.
Papa was actually awake here.
what happens when you don't sleep at nap time
I was shocked this day to find that she actually was sleeping at nap time.
As Micah said tonight, "He sure is cute when he's sleeping!"

"Smushy"

When Micah was a baby, we often called him "Bubba" or "Micah-bear".  Hannah was "Baby-girl" or "Hannah-banana".  (Original, I know.)   And little Matthew I can't help calling "Smushy".  :)  I don't know if it's his multiple chins or baby chub or just the way he snuggles, but there is something about him that is just so squishy and smushy!  I love it!
[While we're on the subject of names, several people have asked me if we want him to be called "Matthew" as opposed to "Matt".  The answer is that we don't care.  You can call him whatever you want, as long as it's nice.]

You can't really capture the essence of his smushiness on camera, but I've tried:
smushy face
smushy snuggling
the cheeks! and those chins!
you just want to squeeze him, don't you?

Pinterest Project

I started a little makeover project before Matthew was born that I've since finished.  I didn't think to take a "before" picture, but this is basically what our old microwave stand looked like.  Thanks to a little inspiration from pinterest, here is the "after" picture:
